Stancomb-Wills Glacier Crack with Emperor
The winter ice shelves break up in the spring. The first signs are the cracks that open up. The Emperor penguins use these opening to cut down on their treks to the sea for fishing. Helicopters on board made it possible to see this penguin troop and its leader surveying the crack as a potential place to enter the sea.
