King Penguin

St. Andrews Bay is home to the largest colony of King Penguins on South Georgia, approximately 150,000 pairs. Two deep melt water rivers run through the colony from the retreating Buxton and Heaney Glaciers. The beach is also home to Fur Seals, Elephant Seals, and many different species of bird and a herd of Reindeer.

Emperor Penguin

Emperor Chicks On The Move....... Chicks are moved into smaller or satellite rookeries to make it easier for parents to vocalize and locate them.

Gentoo Penguin

Porpoising Gentoos....... Penguins have developed a method of swimming called porpoising to avoid coming to a stop every time they break the surface to breath. They swim quickly below the surface and propel themselves out of the water in a low arc, take a breath and continue on their way.

Adelie Penguin

Adelies Leaving the Sea....... There are more Adelie penguins in Antarctica than any of the other species of penguins. This group is returning from the sea.
